This update concerns itself with extending the new Google quality standards Google has imposed on web site owners.
A lot of people believe that the increase in quality standards is multi-reasoned. Google say that they are trying to get rid of sites which are home made, of poor quality, on slow servers, and not correctly coded (to name but a few things).
This is just one of the 500 or so changes Google makes to its algorithm every year, but watch this space as things will continue on this track.
Amongst areas now being looked at are:
- Spelling and grammatical errors.
- Reasoned content.
- Links to backup statements made on your site.
- IP address location - If your site is hosted in India and you are a UK business your rank will be affected.
- Content repetition.

I think the update is great. It forces people to improve their sites, in quality, design, functionality, and usability. It makes the jobs of search engine optimization services people more difficult, but in the end Google is doing its best to please the user. And this update does it.
